Jason Pierre-Paul needs a backiotomy

Mike Garafolo of USA Today has the details. Heading into 2012, the argument could have been made that the Giants had the best trio of DEs in the league, With JPP, Justin Tuck, and Osi Umenyiora. Osi is gone, Tuck is pretty clearly in decline, and JPP not only had a down year last season (at least in comparison to his 2012 performance), but will now have an uphill climb just to get on the field Week 1.

So who plays DE if JPP isn’t ready to go when the season opens? Do you move Mathias Kiwanuka there and weaken your LB corps? Do you believe in Adrian Tracy to take on a bigger role? Can rookie Damontre Moore step in and contribute from Day 1? You might want to familiarize yourself with Moore here. I see him as something more of a prospect, but that’s just based on my amateur scouting.

The Giants are in trouble here, obviously, and Jason Pierre-Paul is an irreplaceable player on what was a very suspect defense last year.

The Giants are kicking themselves for not drafting Daniel Te’o-Nesheim

If he doesn’t play well, will he be considered a bust draft pick, like Graham is for having the crass to get hurt? What if Graham has a good season and JPP doesn’t play much?

    1. A lot of “ifs”…16.5 sacks in your 2nd yr , posted strong metrics (run D , QB pressures) last yr. entering his fourth . its only a 8-12 week recovery period .. a lot of “ifs”.

Jimmy, any chance you can pile on with all this bad news early on for the Giants? I mean, it worked out really well in 2011. I’d appreciate it.

I didn’t know you could weaken the Giants LB corps. It’s physically impossible.

  15. Thiergow says:

Can’t really say that Giants would weaken their LB corps (who’s already awful anyway) by moving Kiwi to the DL. Kiwi never really elevated the LB squad play. He helped without being awful but he didn’t have much added value at this spot.
That’s why a lot of people prefer him at DE where even though he can’t be as good as JPP, he’s still pretty good and can really be productive.
So yeah, number 1 thing is to make Kiwi a full time DE while JPP is out and also hope that some of the young guys like Tracy, Ojomo or Moore can step up.
