NFC East draft picks, updated with overall order

  • The Redskins traded their 1st round pick in 2012 (6th overall), their 2nd round pick in 2012, their 1st round pick in 2013, and their 1st round pick in 2014 for the Rams’ first round pick in 2012 (2nd overall – Robert Griffin III).
  • The Redskins traded Albert Haynesworth to the Patriots for a 5th round pick
  • The Redskins traded Donovan McNabb for a 2012 6th round pick and a conditional 6th round pick in 2013. However, McNabb did not meet the minimum playing time requirements in Minnesota, so the Vikings do not have to send their 2013 6th round pick to the Redskins.
  • The Redskins traded Kevin Barnes for a conditional pick. Those conditions were not met, so the Lions reportedly do not have to forfeit that pick.
  • The Redskins were not awarded any compensatory picks.

The Eagles have 9 picks. A few notes:

  • In July of 2011, the Eagles traded Brodrick Bunkley to Denver for a conditional pick in 2012.  The Eagles received the Broncos’ 6th round pick in return.
  • The Eagles traded a conditional pick to the Browns for S David Sims.  The conditional pick was based on the amount of time Sims stayed on the roster.  Those conditions were met, so the Browns will receive the Eagles 6th round pick, while the Eagles will receive the Browns’ 7th round pick. So essentially, the Browns traded Sims and a 7 to the Eagles for their 6.
  • The Eagles traded LB Moise Fokou and LB Greg Lloyd to Indianapolis for CB Kevin Thomas and a conditional pick.  For the Eagles to receive the conditional pick, both Fokou and Lloyd had to make the Colts’ roster.  Lloyd did not, so the Eagles will not receive the conditional pick.
  • The Eagles traded the 2013 6th round pick acquired from Denver in the Brodrick Bunkley deal along with a conditional pick in 2014 to the Buccaneers for Arrelious Benn and the Buccaneers’ 7th round pick in 2013.
  • The Eagles were awarded a 7th round compensatory pick.

Please enlighten me as to why the Giants received a compensatory draft pick. When I look at the performances of the players they gained/lost in free agency last year, it appears to me they ended up on the plus side of the ledger. They lost Aaron Ross, Mario Manningham, and Dave Tollefson. They gained Martellus Bennett, Sean Locklear and Shaun Rogers. Check out the stats:

Manningham: 12 games, 10 starts, 42 rec, 449 yds., 1TD, 2 fum ,1 fum lost before going on IR
    Ross: 14 games, 9 starts, 46 tackles, 3 pdef, 0 sacks, 0 int, 0 ffum, 0 fum rec
    Tollefson: 15 games, 0 starts, 8 tackles, 0 pdef, 0.5 sacks, 0 int., 0 ffum, 0 fum rec.

    Bennett: 16 games, 16 starts, 55 rec, 626 yds., 5 TD, 0 fum
Locklear: 12 games, 10 starts before going on IR
    Rogers: IR entire season

Players they lost got more games played (41 vs. 26 for players gained), but fewer starts (19 vs.26) and weaker performances. What gives? Looks to me like a case of John Mara telling his buddy Goodell he had to have a compensatory pick.

    1. Biggest determining factor, by far, is size of the contract. Statistics (or how well the players played) have noting to do with the formula.

Jesus the Mara conspiracy theories grow! Pretty soon Mara will be to blame for the shitty DC schools, shitty crime rate etc…

The Eagles are going to field a lineup of 7th rounders.

    1. Luckily for us the 7th is our ‘money round’ lol.

    2. ATG says:

If they can draft a slate of LBers with the same speed, strength, and awareness as last year’s 7th rounder, Bryce Brown, I’m all for it.

If they have his propensity for creating fumbles, even better.
