Martellus Bennett reportedly moving on from Giants

Martellus Bennett is reportedly headed to the Bears, per ESPN Chicago’s Mike Wright.

Wright Bennett

If you’re a reader of this blog, you already know I never really thought very highly of Martellus Bennett. In Dallas, he never really pushed Jason Witten, and the team eventually gave up on him. He built up a reputation as a great blocker, which I always felt was overstated.

Bennett started off the year on fire as a receiver, but fell off drastically as the season progressed:

This will be the 3rd year in a row the Giants will have lost their starting TE in free agency. The numbers of each of those three players aren’t all that different:

Giants TEs

I suspect the Giants will survive just fine without Marty B. So long, Black Unicorn.

Good day, i feel that i observed you saw my web site so i concerned “go back the pick”. I am looking for concerns to enhance my site! I suspect its ample to use some of your concepts !!…

  2. […] Bennett is now a Bear. No biggie. The Giants will plug in a new moderately priced TE, and that guy will go for at least 500 […]

His presence did help the run game come back a bit last year… though that will never be fixed until they fix up the o-line completely.

Agreed. Let’s hope the “JPP of tight ends” is ready to step up as a long term (cheap) solution.

Blue has more pressing needs than TE. As mentioned, Eli and Gilbrides play book has been a catalyst in emerging new and otherwise unknow pass-catchers before. On the other hand, it’s also a good move by Chicago. An athletic, solid run blocking TE that won’t demand top 5 money. A good non-signing and signing by both parties.
