If you’re a regular reader of this site, you’re well aware of my admiration of the Redskins’ front seven on defense. Today that front seven was dealt an enormous blow, as Brian Orakpo tore a pectoral muscle. Typical recovery time is around 4 months. To make matters worse, DE Adam Carriker will also miss the remainder of the season with a quad tendon tear. After three good seasons, Orakpo should be at the stage in his career where he’s beginning to enter his prime. Carriker, meanwhile, was a starter and a key part of an improving DL rotation in Washington. Carriker signed a 4 year deal worth $20 million this offseason.
After getting off to such an incredible start in beating the Saints Week 1 in the Superdome, Week 2 was an utter disaster. The Skins not only lost Orakpo and Carriker, they lost the game… to the lowly Rams.
Per Mike Jones of the Washington Post, Rob Jackson will take over as the starter in place of Orakpo, and Jarvis Jenkins will take over for Carriker.
