Redskins lose Brian Orakpo and Adam Carriker for the season

If you’re a regular reader of this site, you’re well aware of my admiration of the Redskins’ front seven on defense.  Today that front seven was dealt an enormous blow, as Brian Orakpo tore a pectoral muscle.  Typical recovery time is around 4 months.  To make matters worse, DE Adam Carriker will also miss the remainder of the season with a quad tendon tear.  After three good seasons, Orakpo should be at the stage in his career where he’s beginning to enter his prime.  Carriker, meanwhile, was a starter and a key part of an improving DL rotation in Washington.  Carriker signed a 4 year deal worth $20 million this offseason.

After getting off to such an incredible start in beating the Saints Week 1 in the Superdome, Week 2 was an utter disaster.  The Skins not only lost Orakpo and Carriker, they lost the game… to the lowly Rams.

Per Mike Jones of the Washington Post, Rob Jackson will take over as the starter in place of Orakpo, and Jarvis Jenkins will take over for Carriker.

This sucks. I hate when players get injured. I want the best Redskins lined up for the Eagles to play…and beat.

Tough break for the Skins, hate to see their chances realy submarined because of injury to key guys. I thought the Eagles had a tough day in the injury department yesterday but the Skins definitely took the worst of it.

However, as an Eagles fan, I must also have a moment of laughter for Josh Morgan. Hahahahahahahahaha.

Thats definitely a big blow, on a side note wonder if this starts a new Geico commercial curse.

  4. Dez Bryant's Probation Officer says:

They need Tonya Harding to bookend Nancy Kerrigan.

      Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

  5. DerfDiggy says:

    Bowen is a player…..

Not much else past that…including Kerrigan.

  6. mjoedgaard says:

So the only good player left on that defense is the ageless Fletcher?

    1. Kerrigan is playing really well too, and I like Stephen Bowen and Barry Cofield. Back end could be a disaster though.

      1. Corry says:

I wonder how well Kerrigan will continue to play without Orakpo to be the other bookend though. Huge loss for the ‘Skins.

        1. Fair question. I would imagine he’ll get more attention.
