Robert Griffin III signs for 4 years $21 mil and change

Per Robert Griffin III:

Holy crap… Look at how many people retweeted that.  Here is what the deal is worth:

The holdup was whether or not there would be any offset language in the guaranteed portion of the money, but per PFT, the Redskins “blinked” on that sticking point:

If he’s cut by the Redskins in the next four years and signs with a new team, the Redskins won’t get credit for the money he makes elsewhere.

Then again, if RGIII is cut in the next four years, nobody in that front office will even be around to care about any of that.

Jimmy, I read about RGIII’s signing on ESPN, and within the story it mentioned that 13 first-round draft pick still remain unsigned. Wasn’t the rookie wage scale created to eliminate so many picks, specifically first-round picks, from dragging out the contract signing process? Do you think because of the scale, rookies are now trying to nab every penny within their “slotted” salary scale? I’m just glad Cox is signed on already haha – but if you could shed a bit of light as to why you think so many remain unsigned I’d appreciate it. Keep up the great work – looking forward to your notes on camp.

    1. Redskins Fan says:

Actually, it’s Cox that screwed up all the other signings… the Eagles “Blinked” on him first. If they hadn’t blinked, then no one would have been empowered to think that they could get no offesets in their contracts.

The first one in the top 8 to sign his deal. I like everything about this kid.
