Eagles select one of my favorite players at the Senior Bowl, Vinny Curry

Hey! That's holding!

Down in Mobile AL at the Senior Bowl, I did a list of 15 players that impressed me.  Vinny Curry not only made the list, but I used a picture of him.  So… you know… future Hall of Famer.  I also noted that Eagles Director of Player Personnel Phil Savage spoke with him at the Senior Bowl.  Here’s what I said about Curry in the 15 players that impressed me post:

Vinny Curry, DE, Marshall – Tremendous burst off the edge on the snap.  Outstanding first step.  In drills he was going 1-on-1 against interior offensive linemen, and it was comical watching them try to stay in front of Curry.  He was just too quick.  Curry has kind of a sleek build at 6’3, 265.  I didn’t get to see how he might hold up against the run, but at the very least, he could be a really good pass rusher at the next level.  Expect Curry to be a Combine star in Indy.

As it turned out, Curry actually had a very disappointing Combine, running a 4.98.  Not sure if that’s why he slipped, but the Eagles get themselves a really good football player here.

It’s worth noting that Darryl Tapp is scheduled to make $2.575 million this season and turns 28 in September.  He’s a good role player that some team out there can use, but he probably doesn’t fit with the Eagles anymore, especially if they like Phillip Hunt.  It’ll be interesting to see if the Eagles can squeeze a late pick out of someone for Tapp, whether that be in this draft or in 2013.

Forget The 4.8 fourty, which isn’t terrible for a big 265# lineman. This kid has a fabulous attitude and will be a success. Take it to the bank

  15. […] players from the NFL Combine in February.  I already wrote a lot about him last night.  Read on here about Curry if you’re interested, but here’s what the Eagles defensive line depth chart looks like […]

Bust written all over 4.8 speed .

    1. Terrell Suggs ran a 4.84. He was the Defensive Player of the Year last season.

No Jimmy… one metric that seems too awful means instant bust. EVERYONE knows that.
