The NFC East: No country for old men

Redskins punter Sav Rocca is 38 years old.  He’s the great grandfather of the NFC East.  Rocca aside, the NFC East doesn’t have a single player that’s 34 years of age or older.  In fact, there are only three non-kickers, Cowboys DE Kenyon Coleman (33), Redskins WR Santana Moss (32), and Giants backup QB David Carr (32), that are 32 years of age or older.

There will be a handful of additional players that will turn 30 between now and Week 1, but as of today’s date, here’s a quick list of the NFC East 30-somethings:

Cowboys Giants Redskins Eagles
Kenyon Coleman – 33 Lawrence Tynes – 33 Sav Rocca – 38 Jason Babin – 31
L.P. LaDouceur – 31 David Carr – 32 Santana Moss – 32 Jon Dorenbos – 31
Tony Romo – 31 David Diehl – 31 Jammal Brown – 31 Cullen Jenkins – 31
Nate Livings – 30 Eli Manning – 31 Jabar Gaffney – 31 Asante Samuel – 31
Jay Ratliff – 30 David Baas – 30 Rex Grossman – 31 Michael Vick – 31
  Chris Snee – 30 John Beck – 30 Nnamdi Asomugha – 30
  Osi Umenyiora – 30 Darrion Scott – 30 Joselio Hanson – 30
  Corey Webster – 30 Leigh Torrence – 30 Evan Mathis – 30
    Madieu Williams – 30 Jason Peters – 30

Along with everything which appears to be building throughout this specific area, many of your opinions tend to be relatively exciting. Even so, I beg your pardon, because I do not subscribe to your whole plan, all be it exhilarating none the less. It …

  80. AustonianAggie says:

There are 3 QBs that are 31? That kind of stands out

    1. AustonianAggie says:

not counting Rex, I mean 3 starters

  81. Redskins Fan says:

Technically, he’s not a Redskin since he’s a UFA, but you probably should add London Fletcher to the pile; I have a feeling he’ll be signing in the next week or so with the Redskins.

  82. RogerPodacter says:

weird that each team has a 31 year old QB.

    1. Redskins Fan says:

Somehow I thought Manning was younger than that…. but yeah, it’s weird that each team has a 31 year old at QB.

      1. Steve says:

It’s his face, he’s going to eternally look like a baffled 17 year old. Who is somehow more clutch than Tom Brady.

        1. Steve D. says:

In Tom Brady’s defense, he was a lot more clutch when he knew what plays the defense was calling.

        2. Jay Walker (GIB) says:

Catching flies all day does keep one young….

  84. brisulph says:

I suspect Osi, Diehl, and Carr are gone after this year.

    1. Djax10 says:

I dont see why carr is gone.. he is good at what he does. hold the clip board. Eli isnt going anywhere for a while, they have time before they have to start thinking of replacing him

      1. brisulph says:

They have to draft a younger guy to groom as the possible successor (I mean Eli’s ridiculous amount of luck has to run out sometime, right? Or maybe he just reverts to being the INT MACHINE that he truly is.)

    2. Immynimmy says:

Osi? I guess that means DE frist round this year.

      1. brisulph says:

I just assume that is the plan every year.

  85. Will B says:

Surprisingly enough, the Eagles have a ton of “old guys” on their roster.

    1. They don’t have anyone that’s over 32, but the alarming thing with them is that 6 of their really important players are on the list.

      1. Steve says:

That is alarming but we should have at least a couple of drafts to try and replace those guys, now we just need Roseman to hit a couple home runs…

    2. Euler.is.a.pimp says:

Dorenbos doesn’t really count, and I think Samuels and Hanson won’t be a part of this team after the draft.

      1. Tracer Bullet says:

More to the point, there are no younger players who look like they might be ready to step up. I’m not comfortable with Graham or Hunt (or, I guess, Tapp but I don’t think he’ll be here much longer) stepping in for Babin or Marsh replacing Asomugha.

  86. BBI says:

my question is…who the hell is LP LaDoueceur?

      1. BBI says:

        Ah. Thank ye.

  87. Euler.is.a.pimp says:

Wouldn’t have thought the Cowboys had the least.

    1. Yep, they purged their entire OL over the last few years, and other guys like Terence Newman, Bradie James, Keith Brooking, etc.
