You can pretty much read the whole bounty thing anywhere, and I don’t really have too much to add that hasn’t already been said, but here’s an article from back in January 2010, during the Saints’ title run, that’s pretty interesting in hindsight.
Four Cowboys among Top 20… in jersey sales – OCC, Blogging the Boys
1 Eagle, 2 Giants, no Redskins 🙁
Can you guess all the NFCE players before clicking?
On a side note here, love that Peyton Manning made this list. Who’s still buying his jersey? I mean… If you’re a Colts fan and you like football jerseys, don’t you already have one by now? The guy has only been in the league since 1998. What suddenly made you head out to Dick’s Sporting Goods to make that purchase? Do you just love neck injuries?
You’re it! Franchise tags and fresh releases change Cowboys’ free agency landscape – KD Drummond, Blogging the Boys
Good recap of the guys that have been tagged, and the guys suspected of getting the tag that either didn’t, or haven’t yet.
Cowboys haven’t talked with Anthony Spencer’s agent since Combine, yet to make decision on franchise tag – Clarence Hill, Cowboys Corner
Just do it already, Cowboys. Do it! Do it! Do it!
Poe could be Cowboys’ answer – Adam Boedoker, Blue Star
Poe, a 6-3, 346-pound rock of a man, shredded the competition at the combine, running a 4.98 40-yard dash and benched 225 pounds a combine-best 44 times. In other words, he’s a freak of nature athletically speaking. Those guys don’t always work out, but it’s not like this is Darrius Heyward-Bay we’re talking about. Poe is a legit talent that just bolstered his standing last week.
I’m not so sure he isn’t “Darrius Heyward-Bey.” I’m not going to pretend like I’ve watched a ton of Memphis game film, but the folks that have all seem to have come to a common conclusion… that Poe was far less dominant than he should have been playing in against lesser competition.
Redskins, Giants, and Eagles after the jump…
Washington Redskins offered bounties for big hits under former assistant coach Gregg Williams – Mark Maske, Washington Post
Great job here by Maske, getting 5 Redskins (current and former) talking about it mere hours after the Saints story broke.
I give some love to Fred.
Giants’ Hixon wants to repay team for sticking with him through ACL injuries – Mike Garafolo, Star Ledger
He signed an undisclosed contract yesterday.
Aaaaaand… That’s about all I can find for the Giants today. All Hixon: Just 15 people writing about a minor news story. Come on, Giants media. Lots to talk about. Let’s step it up.
The first rule of bounty club is… – Tommy Lawlor, IgglesBlitz
This kind of thing had a bizarre charm back when Buddy did it in the late 1980s. Doing it in the NFL right now when player safety is such a focal point…insane. The first reaction by many was that a lot of teams do something like this. I don’t doubt that to a certain extent, but openly paying players for putting people out of games on a weekly basis seems a bit extreme.
Where did the money come from you might ask? Oddly, it was delivered to Williams by G. Gordon Liddy and Howard Hunt in black bags. Williams would then disperse it as he saw fit. Nixon can’t be stopped even from the grave!
Okay, that last part was a little embellished (as in completely).
Love that Tommy fears the government so much that he made 100% sure he was kidding about a dead president coming back from the grave to pay Saints defenders for injuring opposing players.
DeSean Jackson, the franchise tag, and respect – Brian Solomon, McNabborKolb.com
Interesting theory here by amateur psychologist Brian, which is essentially that DeSean was mopey last season not so much because he was underpaid, but because he saw the absence of a new contract as a lack of respect. Hopefully for Eagles fans, Brian’s onto something here.
