Back in July, I was pretty hard on Gerald Sensabaugh for thinking that he was going to land some sort of mega-deal this past offseason. He didn’t.
I’m a little late on this, but Sensabaugh signed a 5 year deal worth $22.5 million on Friday. I’m slightly conflicted on the deal. On the one hand, Sensabaugh is a decent starter at safety, but is he really worth $4.5 million/year? In my opinion, no. However, terrible safety play is an epidemic in today’s NFL. A few weeks ago, I did a post on who I would bring with me to a fictional planet if I had to choose 53 players to win a game that would save the world. I had to settle on Eric Weddle as my 3rd safety. Not good.
Factor in the deals that Quintin Mikell (4 years, $27 million) and Weddle (5 years, $40 million) got, not to mention the Cowboys still probably have the Alan Ball experiment fresh in their heads, and this deal really isn’t so bad. Nice deal for both sides.
