NFL Network’s Michael Irvin is just making shit up

Earlier today, I wrote about DeSean Jackson’s delusion about where he ranks among the NFL’s best receivers, and was going to point out a question that Michael Irvin asked within the interview, but thought it deserved its own post.

Check out the 3:10 mark of the interview here.

“Now, people are saying he doesn’t want to go across the middle.  Cause it was reported that someone on your team said that you’re not going across the middle.”

My first reaction was, “Wait, what?”  That would be huge news. Still, I searched for a half hour trying to find it.  Jackson did say that staying healthy was his number 1 priority, but that’s a far cry from Irvin’s claim that teammates are saying he won’t go over the middle.

Frankly, it’s completely made up, and as Jason Brewer of Bleeding Green Nation noted, how does NFL Network not catch it when the interview is a week old.

@ Yup. The interview was done a week ago and no one from @ bothers to fact check?

Jimmy, as impossible as it may seem, we have a legitimate contender for the worst call of the year. The ‘backwards pass’ by Vick was bad, but Desean’s taunting penalty not being called as a dead ball foul may be even worse.

    1. And apparently, by weird rules in the rule book, both calls were correct apparently.

      1. Jason-E says:

The officiating was freaking terrible tonight. Did you hear where the Ref said “all the actions were legal”? Meanwhile, Trent Cole is in a headlock.

      2. Turd.Ferguson says:

Wow, I apologize, went and looked it up and that was actually the right call. My bad.

        NFL Rule 14; Section 1; Article 9:
If there has been a foul by either team during a down and there is a dead ball foul by the other team in the action immediately after the end of the down, it is a double foul, and all rules for enforcement of double fouls apply

        Rule 14; Section 3; Article 1:
If there is a double foul (3-11-2-c) without a change of possession, the penalties are offset and the down is replayed at the previous spot. If it was a scrimmage down, the number of the next down and the necessary line is the same as for the down for which the new one is substitute.

Irvin’s an ass. And, for better or worse, DJax is done in Philly.
