Let’s address these nuggets one at a time:
First, Osi. WFAN reported this morning that Osi Umenyiora, as expected, is going to hold out of training camp. As a wrote a couple months ago, Umenyiora doesn’t have a leg to stand on. Umenyiora signed an extension in 2005 worth more than $41 million over 7 years, which apparently isn’t enough. He wants to be paid like a Top 5 DE (which he’s not), and if the Giants don’t agree he wants to be traded. So what’s he worth? If you’re another team out there, do you want to pay a malcontent that turns 30 in November “Top 5 DE” money, AND give up a high pick to get him? And if you’re the Giants, are you unloading him for something less than what he’s worth just because he’s unhappy with his perfectly fair current deal? The answer to both of those questions are “no.” This one could get ugly.
Now, DeSean. Michael Vick was interviewed this morning and asked directly about DeSean Jackson. Per Jeff McLane, Vick’s quote:
Michael Vick was one of the first Eagles to report to the NovaCare when the Eagles were finally permitted to open their doors to their players.
But will DeSean Jackson, who has made it no secret that he wants a contract extension, show up at Lehigh tomorrow for training camp? Vick made it seem as if that may not be the case.
“Hopefully, he’ll be here tomorrow,” Vick said. “DeSean just has some things to think about and some decisions to make that only himself can make.”
