2011 Free Agency: QB Menu

I can see Matt Moore as a Redskin or Giant

Now that we’re beginning to see some progress on the CBA front and have early reports from Adam Schefter that all free agents with as many as 4 years of NFL service with be unrestricted free agents, every blogger and their mother is going to be speculating on free agency moves.  Why should I be any different?

With that in mind, let’s just dive right in, position by position, and take a look at the menus from Le Cafe du Free Agency, starting with this craptastic group of QB’s:

QB Current Team QB Current team
Kyle Boller Raiders J.P. Losman Seahawks
Marc Bulger Ravens Matt Moore Panthers
Kellen Clemons Jets Keith Null Panthers
Kerry Collins Titans JT O’Sullivan Raiders
Todd Collins Bears Patrick Ramsey Vikings
Brodie Croyle Chiefs JaMarcus Russell None
Trent Edwards Jags Chris Simms Titans
Brett Favre Vikings Alex Smith 49ers
Chrlie Frye Raiders Troy Smith 49ers
Bruce Gradkowski Raiders Jim Sorgi Giants
Rex Grossman Redskins Drew Stanton Lions
Matt Hasselbeck Seahawks Billy Volek Chargers
Tarvaris Jackson Vikings Seneca Wallace Browns

Cowboys fans, you’re excused.  You guys have your starter (Tony Romo), your seasoned veteran backup (Jon Kitna), and developmental guy (Stephen McGee).  Have a good one.  We’ll meet back here for the FB’s.

(Cont after the jump)…

Giants fans, you could use a developmental guy.  Even though Eli Manning has never missed a professional start and you have your veteran backup, with the likely departure of Jim Sorgi, it might make sense to grab a guy that can develop under Eli and Co.  From the menu, I think Matt Moore could be a really interesting fit.

Eagles fans, this one is of great concern to you.  With Kevin Kolb likely to be traded, Mike Kafka probably not quite ready to be the #2 and Michael Vick running all over the place and taking as many shots as he does, it would be wise to grab a good, veteran QB.  Tommy Lawlor of IgglesBlitz already covered this in some detail here and here, and I don’t really have anything to add.

And finally, Redskins fans, what to do with John Beck, Rex Grossman, and Donovan McNabb?  McNabb is a goner, and Grossman technically isn’t even on the team.  I think signing Grossman as soon as possible is a no-brainer, but what about adding that 3rd guy?  Like the Giants, I like Matt Moore here too.  Also think Drew Stanton is intriguing.

What do you all think?

  1. Immynimmy says:

I think we go after Hassleback because of the Reid ties and the WCO familiarity.

  2. Mr.Electric10 says:

I think Trent Edwards or Matt Moore could actually be cheap options to compete with Kafka

  3. D3Keith says:

Yeah, as an Eagles fan, I’ve been hoping for Tarvaris or Alex Smith all along … at least until it became apparent that Hasselbeck would be available.

I think those two are the guys who could actually develop into something beyond what we now know them as, with the benefit of a new low-pressure situation and some Reidhinweg coaching. Maybe Trent Edwards too.

If for some reason a starting job didn’t pan out for Hasselbeck or McNabb, they would be ideal.

    1. The Legend says:

I will always love McNabb but I don’t want him back as a backup to Vick because I can just see nothing but problems if that were to happen. My 3 targets are Jackson, Hasselbeck, & Troy Smith. I would say Vince Young(who Jimmy left off of his list) but I’m not sure how that would play out either

      1. Hmmmm… You’re right about VY. How the hell did I miss him?

  4. The Legend says:

People have brought up Hasselbeck for the Eagles but I actually like Jackson more since Reid & Mornhinweg could develop him & we wouldn’t have to change the gameplan to much for him if Vick were to get hurt like we would if we were to sign Hasselbeck
